Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that F-5 Flamingo cruise missiles were launched during the night of May 5, targeting military-industrial sites in Cheboksary, located in the Chuvash Republic of Russia. He confirmed that a factory was hit in the strikes.
Zelensky shared details on social media platform X, posting a video of the missile launches. He noted that the F-5 Flamingo missiles traveled over 1,500 kilometers.
“The damaged military production facility was involved in the manufacturing of relay protection systems, automation, and low-voltage equipment. The factory supplied navigation components for the Russian Navy, the missile industry, aviation, and armored vehicles. All of these are used by Russians in their war against us – against Ukraine,” he stated.
The President emphasized the need for Russia to end its war against Ukraine and move towards genuine diplomacy, indicating that Kyiv has made its proposals.
Earlier, the Russian Telegram channel Astra analyzed footage of the missile impact in Cheboksary, which was shared online by local residents, reporting that the targeted facility was “VNIIR-Progress.”
This enterprise is part of the production association “ABS Electro.” According to the association’s website, “VNIIR-Progress” has extensive experience in developing and manufacturing scientific and technical products, software-hardware complexes, automation and control systems, electrical products, electronic components, and radio-electronic products.
Notably, this factory produces satellite signal receivers of the “Kometa/Kometa M” series, which assist the Russian army in countering Ukrainian electronic warfare systems.
Ukrainian President Zelensky confirmed missile strikes on a military facility in Cheboksary, Russia, highlighting the factory's role in supporting the Russian military. The strikes are part of Ukraine's ongoing efforts to counter Russian aggression.
