Ukraine’s Prime Minister Discusses OECD Membership in Kyiv Meeting

On June 23, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko met with Mathias Cormann, the Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), in Kyiv. During the meeting, Svyrydenko highlighted the results of three OECD reviews focused on infrastructure, public governance, and justice in Ukraine.

According to Svyrydenko, these reviews provide an independent assessment of Ukraine’s reforms and serve as a roadmap for future changes. She noted that the reports commend the progress made through years of consistent reforms.

Furthermore, a recently released OECD report on anti-corruption and integrity indicated that Ukraine’s performance in preventing corruption, judicial integrity, and political party financing is above the OECD average. Svyrydenko attributed these results to systematic efforts over many years.

The Prime Minister emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to advancing its application for OECD membership, viewing it as a crucial part of the country’s European integration strategy. She expressed optimism that the findings from the reviews affirm Ukraine’s readiness to achieve candidate status for OECD membership.

Svyrydenko also mentioned that she submitted a letter to the Ukrainian government regarding the renewal of the membership request and is hopeful for the commencement of negotiations soon.

While Cormann did not publicly comment on the meeting, his visit included discussions with Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal.

According to an OECD assessment released on the same day, Ukraine will require $587.7 billion for infrastructure recovery over the next decade. In March, Kuleba stated that Ukraine aims to secure candidate status for OECD membership within the year. In June 2025, then-Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal expressed hopes for Ukraine to join the OECD by 2026.

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko met with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann in Kyiv to discuss Ukraine's progress and aspirations for OECD membership. The meeting highlighted positive reviews of Ukraine's reforms and the financial needs for infrastructure recovery.
