In a recent evening address, he instructed the Minister of Defense and military leadership to discuss the reform details with combat commanders to incorporate valuable suggestions and ensure comprehensive communication about the upcoming changes.
Zelensky emphasized that steps have already been taken to support military brigades, including measures for guaranteed monthly personnel replenishment and simplified transfer processes. He stated, “The goal is to finalize everything by May so that by June this year, the changes will be implemented and felt on the ground.”
Key Aspects of the Proposed Reforms:
- The minimum salary for support roles is proposed to be set at 30,000 UAH, with significantly higher pay for combat positions. Commanders, combat sergeants, and officers are expected to see a substantial increase in their compensation.
- Zelensky has directed the introduction of special contracts for infantry soldiers, with payments ranging from 250,000 to 400,000 UAH based on mission performance.
- The expansion of contract service aims to establish defined service terms and allow phased demobilization for those previously conscripted, starting this year, based on clear time criteria.
President Zelensky has laid out a timeline for comprehensive military reforms in Ukraine, aiming for implementation by June. The proposed changes focus on enhancing pay and contract terms for military personnel, reflecting a commitment to bolster the armed forces amid ongoing challenges.
