Recent drone attacks attributed to Iran have resulted in damage to at least 16 U.S. military bases across the Middle East, with some facilities sustaining severe impacts rendering them uninhabitable, according to a CNN investigation.
The report indicates that Camp Buring in Kuwait experienced substantial damage, forcing American personnel to evacuate the site. Additional affected bases are located in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Cyprus.
“We have never seen anything like this. These were rapid and precise attacks on U.S. bases using advanced technology,” stated a source within the U.S. military to CNN.
Iran’s drone strikes reportedly targeted a range of military equipment, including aircraft, communication systems, and radar defense mechanisms.
Furthermore, CNN has estimated the actual financial cost of the conflict with Iran to be around $50 billion, a figure that is double the $25 billion previously reported by the U.S. Department of Defense.
In the context of escalating military actions, on February 28, Israel launched an attack on Tehran, prompting U.S. President Donald Trump to announce a “major military operation” against Iran aimed at neutralizing perceived threats from the Iranian regime. Trump accused Iran of funding and training militant groups in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Hamas in Palestine, asserting that the operation’s objectives included dismantling Iran’s missile industry and naval capabilities.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responded by launching missiles and drones targeting Israel, as well as U.S. military bases in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
On the same day, Trump claimed that Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was dead, a statement later confirmed by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
On March 1, the IRGC announced the initiation of “the most destructive offensive operation in the history of the Islamic Republic” against Israel and U.S. military installations. Trump warned the Iranian regime against these plans, threatening a “very strong response.”
By March 6, Trump emphasized the need for a complete overhaul of Iran’s leadership, mentioning potential candidates for a “good leader.” Two days later, Iran’s Assembly of Experts elected Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the deceased ayatollah, as the new Supreme Leader.
On March 26, Trump declared a temporary halt on the destruction of Iranian energy facilities until April 6. However, due to a lack of progress in negotiations, he extended the deadline by 20 hours to the evening of April 7.
Trump threatened to obliterate all bridges and power stations in Iran, warning that such actions would have devastating consequences for the Iranian populace and provoke dangerous regional responses.
On April 6, Iran presented the U.S. and Israel with a ten-point plan for war cessation through Pakistan.
On April 7, Trump announced an agreement to suspend bombings of Iran and delay a “devastating attack” for two weeks, contingent on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. He stated that the ceasefire would be mutual, and Iran’s ten-point proposal could serve as a foundation for negotiations.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi noted that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz within two weeks would be possible “provided there is coordination with Iran’s armed forces and consideration of technical limitations.”
