Former President Donald Trump has publicly criticized Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for her refusal to assist the United States in operations concerning Iran. In a recent telephone interview with an Italian publication, Trump expressed his disbelief at Meloni’s stance, questioning whether Italians approve of her decision.
Trump remarked, “Does this please the people? I can’t imagine it. I am shocked by her. I thought she had courage; I was mistaken.” He noted that he has not discussed his dissatisfaction directly with Meloni.
According to Trump, Meloni’s position is particularly perplexing given Italy’s reliance on oil from the region and the importance of the United States to Italy. He stated, “She simply says that Italy does not want to be involved. Even though Italy gets its oil from there, and America is very important to Italy, she believes that America should do the work for her.”
Trump also addressed Meloni’s defense of Pope Francis, who had previously described Trump’s remarks about the pontiff as “unacceptable.” He countered, stating, “She is the unacceptable one, because she does not care if Iran has nuclear weapons, and they would blow up Italy in two minutes if they had the chance.”
Furthermore, Trump expressed concerns about Meloni’s leadership, suggesting that she is no longer the person Italy needs and warning that immigration is detrimental to Italy and Europe as a whole.
