In a significant military operation, Ukrainian defense forces launched strikes on vital targets in the Moscow region on the night of May 17. The attacks resulted in fires at a microchip manufacturing plant and a crucial oil station.
Ukrainian military officials confirmed that the operation involved domestically developed weaponry, including drone systems RS-1 ‘Bars’, FP-1 ‘Firepoint’, and BARS-SM ‘GLADIATOR’.
The military expressed gratitude to the 412th Separate Brigade of Drone Systems, the 107th Reactive Artillery Brigade, the 19th Rocket Brigade ‘Svyata Varvara’, and other security and defense units for their effective execution of the mission.
The operation successfully struck the ‘Angstrom’ facility in Zelenograd, known for producing microchips for precision weapons, a critical component of Russia’s military-industrial complex. Additionally, the ‘Solenchnogorskaya’ pumping station, integral to the oil pipeline supplying fuel to Russian troops, was also hit.
Beyond these deep strikes, Ukrainian defenders targeted enemy positions along the front lines and in border areas of Russia. Notably, a command post in the Bunge area of Donetsk and drone control points in Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Kherson regions were struck.
Troop concentrations in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, as well as in the Volfin area of Kursk Oblast, also came under fire. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reiterated its commitment to systematically undermine Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine.
This operation follows one of the largest attacks on Moscow since the onset of the full-scale war, with reports indicating the movement of up to 300 drones. Residents in the Moscow area reported numerous explosions, while Russian authorities claimed to have intercepted over 70 drones.
Subsequently, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense confirmed the strikes on several strategic sites in Moscow and its surroundings, marking the first time the Moscow Oil Refinery and the Solenchnogorsk oil depot were targeted, alongside microelectronics facilities.
The Security Service of Ukraine later clarified that the joint operation aimed to weaken Russia’s military capabilities, which included successful attacks on military infrastructure in Crimea.
Ukrainian forces executed a coordinated strike on key Russian military and industrial sites near Moscow, including a microchip plant and an oil station. This operation reflects ongoing efforts to disrupt Russia's military capabilities amid the ongoing conflict.
