Ukrainian military forces have successfully eliminated a Russian TOC ‘Solntsepek’ heavy flamethrower system in the southern region of Ukraine. This information was confirmed by Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, during a televised briefing.
Voloshyn reported that the system was identified through the efforts of Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance. He described the weapon as formidable and costly, emphasizing the effectiveness of the reconnaissance operations that led to its destruction.
“I want to share positive news. Yesterday, we destroyed the enemy’s TOC ‘Solntsepek’ fire system,” Voloshyn stated.
The TOC ‘Solntsepek’ is a Russian heavy multiple launch rocket system, equipped with 220 mm caliber rockets, which was introduced into service in 2001. Its primary characteristic is the use of thermobaric munitions, also known as ‘fuel-air explosives,’ which create an aerosol cloud of fuel that detonates upon impact.
This detonation generates a powerful shockwave and creates a zone of extremely high pressure and temperature, effectively consuming oxygen and obliterating all living organisms even in enclosed shelters, bunkers, or natural terrain features.
Due to the nature of its munitions, the system is often regarded as one of the most devastating non-nuclear weapons, as it is nearly impossible to find adequate shelter from its effects behind conventional fortifications.
The system comprises:
- A combat vehicle with a launch system based on a tank,
- Two transport-loading vehicles,
- Unguided rocket projectiles.
According to unofficial sources, the Russian Ground Forces have 55 units of the TOC-1A ‘Solntsepek’ in their arsenal, with an additional three systems operated by the Russian Airborne Troops.
Ukrainian forces have reported the destruction of a Russian TOC 'Solntsepek' flamethrower system, a significant development in the ongoing conflict. The system, known for its devastating capabilities, was identified through aerial reconnaissance efforts.
