Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron, expressing gratitude for France’s commitment to assist Ukraine with anti-ballistic missile capabilities. Zelensky emphasized that recent Russian attacks underscore the necessity for collective defense against emerging threats.
During their conversation, Zelensky stated, “France is ready to work on anti-ballistic systems. This is a strong decision and an important step. We discussed enhancing our capabilities to repel Russian strikes immediately. I appreciate the readiness to bolster our air defense systems.”
The leaders covered a range of topics, including the European track and the opening of all negotiation clusters in the near future. Macron reiterated France’s support for Ukraine, acknowledging the significance of these efforts for the Ukrainian people.
Zelensky also mentioned Macron’s upcoming visit to African nations, highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts in that region, which he deemed crucial for Ukraine as well. They agreed to maintain contact moving forward.
In related news, on the night of May 14 and into the following morning, Ukraine faced a severe combined assault from Russian forces. Reports indicate that 675 drones, 35 cruise missiles, 18 ballistic missiles, and 3 aeroballistic missiles were launched at various targets across the country, with Kyiv being the primary focus.
The attacks resulted in significant damage in several areas of the capital, including residential buildings, a business center, and vehicles. The most severe impact was felt in the Darnytskyi district, where a Russian missile destroyed part of a high-rise apartment building.
Following the strikes, President Zelensky reported that Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted over 93% of the incoming missiles and drones, although some did manage to hit their targets. He assured that there would be a proportional response to these attacks.
