Ukraine Responds to Russian Attacks with Sanctions Amid Ongoing Violence

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Ukraine will respond to Russian attacks with “long-range sanctions.” He emphasized that if Moscow is open to diplomacy, Kyiv will also pursue a diplomatic approach.

Zelensky noted that Ukraine has acted fairly and consistently, having proposed a ceasefire starting at midnight on May 6. However, he stated that this ceasefire has been violated by Russia in recent days.

According to the president, since the beginning of the day, the aggressor nation has launched attacks on Ukraine using various methods, including kamikaze drones, missile strikes, and ground assaults. He reported that there have been approximately 100 drone strikes, numerous assaults on key frontline areas, and several airstrikes.

“This indicates that the Kremlin does not take the possibility of a ceasefire seriously, and the only concern for Russian authorities seems to be a temporary silence in Red Square,” Zelensky stated.

It is important to note that Zelensky had previously declared a ceasefire at midnight on May 6, but Russia has continued its attacks on Ukrainian cities. Throughout the night, Russian forces targeted various locations, including Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Kryvyi Rih, using drones and missiles.

During the day, two enemy drones struck a kindergarten building in central Sumy, igniting a fire. Rescue teams recovered the bodies of two staff members from the rubble, while seven others sustained injuries.

Ukrainian President Zelensky has stated that the nation will respond to ongoing Russian attacks with sanctions, emphasizing the failure of a proposed ceasefire. Despite calls for peace, Russia's continued aggression has resulted in significant casualties and damage in various Ukrainian cities.
