Ukraine Responds to Continued Russian Attacks Amid Ceasefire Proposal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has condemned ongoing Russian military actions, stating that Russia has disregarded Ukraine’s proposed ceasefire that was set to begin on May 6. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine will respond in kind to the attacks, which have included drone strikes and missile assaults.

Since the start of the day, Russian forces have launched a series of attacks across Ukraine, utilizing drones, missiles, and ground assaults. Zelensky reported that nearly 100 drone strikes were recorded, along with numerous air raids targeting key frontlines.

Significant damage has been reported in several regions, including Kharkiv, Sumy, Donetsk, and Kherson. Attacks have also targeted locomotives and railway infrastructure in multiple areas, as well as energy facilities.

Zelensky remarked that these actions indicate Russia’s lack of genuine interest in a ceasefire, suggesting that the only concern for Russian leadership is maintaining a brief silence in Moscow. He stated, “Russia continues to kill people and is irrationally preoccupied with a few hours of quiet in one part of Moscow. Ukraine will respond justly — day by day. We proposed a ceasefire starting midnight on May 6, but Russia has violated this agreement. In response to Russian strikes, we will implement our long-range sanctions, and in the face of Russia’s willingness to engage in diplomacy, we will pursue diplomatic avenues ourselves.”

In his address, Zelensky also stressed the need for concrete actions to bring an end to the conflict. He asserted, “Peace will eventually be achieved; we are working towards it. The only question is how much time will be lost due to Russia’s madness.”
