Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has emphasized the need for vigilance regarding Belarusian actions that could threaten Ukraine’s security. During a visit to Slavutych, he met with local leaders from the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions to discuss support for residents and the enhancement of defense measures.
Zelensky stated that the discussions included the fortification of defensive structures and additional border security. He pointed out that Ukraine’s Defense Forces and security agencies are focused on the northern front, particularly concerning potential threats from Belarus, which Russia is keen to involve further in the ongoing conflict.
The President reiterated Ukraine’s capability to strengthen its defensive posture and conduct preventative operations against Russian territories that pose a risk. He remarked, “We remember that in 2022, there was an offensive from Belarusian territory as well. We will not forget this. Ukrainian Defense Forces, security services, and our intelligence are aware of the threats and how to respond appropriately.”
On May 20, Zelensky indicated that the aggressor state has five potential scenarios for escalating the conflict in the Chernihiv and Kyiv directions. He confirmed that Ukraine would bolster its military presence in these areas in light of the perceived threats.
