A young couple has successfully renovated a dilapidated village house in Ukraine, drawing attention from local residents who now visit to see the transformation. The owners, Arina and her partner, purchased the property three years ago, despite advice to demolish it due to its poor condition.
Initially, the couple considered making only minor improvements to use the house as temporary accommodation. However, they decided to undertake a comprehensive renovation, which included replacing the roof, ceilings, floors, doors, windows, and electrical systems. They also removed some interior walls to enhance the layout and strengthen the structure.
The interior design features a minimalist aesthetic, with light white and green tones, new furniture, textiles, and updated kitchen facilities, including a stove and open shelving. The outdoor space has also been revitalized, with new paving, a fence, young trees, and a grassy lawn.
Reasons for Choosing Village Life
Some social media followers questioned the couple’s decision to live in a rural area with limited infrastructure and job opportunities. Arina clarified that they both work online, allowing them to maintain their lifestyle without being tied to a specific location.
Many users have praised the couple for preserving the authentic atmosphere of a traditional village house while modernizing it for comfort. One commenter noted that after a year of renovating a similar home, she realized it might have been cheaper to start from scratch. In response, Arina humorously remarked that they had already completed the major renovations, making demolition impractical.
Background on the Property
Previously reported by UANIAN, the couple acquired the house for approximately $5,500. Progress was slow during the winter months, with significant renovations commencing in the spring. They focused on cost-saving measures, often repurposing existing materials.
Arina mentioned that many were skeptical about their renovation efforts, particularly regarding the restoration of the fireplace, which cost around 350 hryvnias.
