Beginning September 1, 2027, students in Ukraine entering the 10th grade will have the option to select between vocational education and an academic curriculum. This initiative, announced by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, aims to integrate practical skills training with general secondary education.
The vocational program will offer ten specialized tracks, including information technology, medicine, engineering, construction, agriculture, logistics, business, education, and beauty industry, among others.
Dmytro Zavhorodnii, Deputy Minister of Education and Science, emphasized that the new curriculum will provide high school students with greater opportunities to make informed career choices. Students will not only complete their secondary education but also gain exposure to various professions, acquire practical experience, and better understand their future career paths. This initiative is considered a significant step in reforming secondary education to align learning with real-world applications and labor market needs.
The program will combine traditional school subjects with specialized training. For instance, students pursuing IT will engage more deeply with mathematics and digital technologies, while those in the medical field will focus on biology and chemistry.
Upon graduation, students will receive both a secondary school diploma and certification of their professional qualifications. The Ministry of Education and Science aims for this approach to help adolescents identify their career interests earlier and to ensure that education is more closely aligned with the demands of the job market.
