Death Toll Rises Following Russian Strike on Kyiv

The death toll from a Russian missile strike on Kyiv on May 24 has increased to three, according to a statement from the city’s police department on May 26. Emergency rescue operations revealed human remains, believed to belong to a woman missing from a partially destroyed building in the Shevchenkivskyi district.

Authorities indicated that DNA testing will be conducted for final identification. On the night of May 24, Ukraine faced a large-scale attack from Russia, which included the use of 600 drones and 90 missiles, primarily targeting Kyiv.

Initially, two fatalities were reported, with 91 individuals injured as a result of the attack. Damage assessments indicated impacts across 49 locations in the Shevchenkivskyi, Darnytskyi, Desnianskyi, Obolonskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the assault caused damage to residential buildings, shopping centers, educational institutions, a market, and administrative buildings belonging to the State Emergency Service and police, as well as the National Chernobyl Museum. President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that approximately 30 residential buildings were either damaged or destroyed in Kyiv.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed responsibility for the extensive drone and missile strikes, including ballistic missiles, asserting that the targets were military command facilities, air bases, and enterprises within Ukraine’s defense industry.

The recent Russian missile strike on Kyiv has resulted in three confirmed deaths and numerous injuries, highlighting the ongoing conflict's impact on civilian infrastructure. Emergency services continue to assess the damage across multiple districts as authorities investigate the incident further.
