Ukrainian Court Orders Auction of Property Linked to Russian Propagandist

A Ukrainian court has ordered the auction of a property owned by Russian propagandist Artemiy Lebedev, located in a historic area of Kyiv. This decision follows a ruling by the High Anti-Corruption Court in July 2023, which transferred ownership of Lebedev’s assets in Ukraine to the state.

According to Dmytro Natalukha, head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine, the apartment had been in a dormant state for several years, preserving personal belongings of the former owner, including books, posters, and bottles of alcohol, all covered in a thick layer of dust. Natalukha described the apartment as a “time capsule,” reflecting life as it was when the court seized the property.

“A capsule where life and all its domestic trifles froze on the day the court arrested this housing, and since then, it has been waiting for its fate for several years,” Natalukha noted.

The auction is part of broader efforts to restore justice in Ukraine, with proceeds from the sale intended to aid in compensating those whose homes have been destroyed or occupied due to ongoing Russian aggression.

Background on Artemiy Lebedev

Artemiy Lebedev is a Russian designer, entrepreneur, and blogger. In March 2017, he was banned from entering Ukraine for five years, a decision he contested, claiming he had business interests and property in the country. In January 2022, he was placed under sanctions by Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.

In March 2023, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced that Lebedev was under investigation for filming a commissioned report at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which he disseminated through his substantial social media following.
