Ukraine Claims Higher Russian Casualties Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced on May 11 that Ukrainian forces are inflicting greater losses on Russian troops than Russia can replenish through mobilization efforts. Speaking at a joint briefing in Kyiv with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, Fedorov described a “positive trend” on the front lines, attributing this to the depletion of Russian military resources and the advancement of deep strike operations.

Fedorov reported that Ukrainian forces have been successful in neutralizing approximately 35,000 Russian soldiers in recent months. He stated, “These past months have been record-breaking in terms of how our defense forces are halting the enemy on the battlefield. We see a positive trend. We managed to eliminate 35,000 Russians in both March and April. Russia lacks the strength to continue offensive operations. The Ukrainian army is exhausting the Russians.”

The minister also emphasized the progress of Ukraine’s deep strike operations, asserting, “We have completely seized the initiative in this area.” He noted that Germany has allocated initial funding to support Ukrainian drone assault units.

Fedorov elaborated on a new approach to warfare that integrates drones, assault units, and infantry for offensive actions, stating,

“This is the use of a new doctrine of warfare for conducting certain offensive operations. It involves the use of drones and assault units, along with infantry, to achieve specific results.”

He added that this support reflects the changes Ukraine is making to modern warfare tactics.

Current Frontline Situation

On the same day, Brigade Officer Volodymyr Chernyak from the “Rubizh” brigade commented on the actual situation at the front, suggesting that Western media may be exaggerating the slowdown of Russian advances in the Pokrovsk direction. He noted that Russian forces are adapting their tactics and increasingly employing various means to influence Ukrainian soldiers.

Military expert Pavlo Narozhnyi also provided insights into the situation, indicating that new drones available to Ukrainian forces have significantly altered the dynamics of combat. He stated that Russian troops no longer feel as secure at distances of 50-150 kilometers from the front line as they did previously, particularly with the integration of Starlink terminals on these drones.
