Ukrainian military officials are assessing the possibility of renewed assaults from Russia, particularly targeting northern regions, including the Chernihiv and Kyiv areas, potentially launched from Belarus and the Bryansk region. This evaluation comes amid ongoing concerns regarding the stability of the border and the threat of expanded military operations.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has indicated that measures are being taken to bolster defenses in these vulnerable areas. He stated, “We are working to strengthen our defense in this direction. Relevant directives have been issued to military command, and we are also taking preventive steps regarding both Belarus and specific parts of Russia that pose a threat.”
Zelensky further urged the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to enhance diplomatic efforts concerning Belarus. He emphasized the need for increased pressure and coordination with international partners, expressing frustration over the persistent threat posed by Russia’s potential involvement of Belarus in the conflict. He remarked, “It is tiresome that there is always this threat to Ukraine that the Russians may at some point draw Belarus into an escalation of the war. They must understand: the consequences for them will be significant.”
Additionally, Zelensky noted that there are specific tasks assigned to Ukrainian intelligence regarding this threat, although he did not disclose details. He also mentioned that Ukraine possesses concrete capabilities to respond to any emerging threats from Russian territory.
Ukrainian officials are on high alert for possible military actions from Russia, especially from northern regions. President Zelensky has called for enhanced defensive measures and diplomatic efforts to address the ongoing threats from Belarus.
