Kyiv Court Acquits Key Witness in NABU Detective Case, Prosecutors Plan Appeal

The Shevchenkivskyi District Court in Kyiv has acquitted Yusuf Mameshev, a pivotal witness in the case against NABU detective Ruslan Magamedrasulov. The Office of the Prosecutor General announced plans to appeal the ruling.

According to a statement from the Prosecutor General’s Office, Mameshev was cleared of charges due to insufficient evidence to prove that he committed a criminal offense. His attorney, Volodymyr Okhrimenko, confirmed the court’s decision in comments to the media.

The Prosecutor General’s Office intends to contest the acquittal, stating that they believe the evidence gathered during the investigation warranted charges against Mameshev. They plan to review the full text of the court’s decision before preparing an appeal.

Mameshev has been a significant figure in the ongoing investigation into Ruslan Magamedrasulov. His testimony was previously utilized by the prosecution as part of their case against the detective.

Magamedrasulov faces serious allegations from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), which claims he and his father, Sentyabr, were involved in the illegal sale of industrial hemp to Russian economic representatives. The SBU alleges that Magamedrasulov acted as an intermediary for shipments to the Republic of Dagestan, with his father reportedly organizing the illegal cultivation of the hemp.

Since September 2022, all trade with Russia has been prohibited. The prosecution cites recorded conversations between Magamedrasulov and an acquaintance discussing these transactions, along with information about a Dagestani company purportedly set to purchase and distribute the hemp in Russia.

Magamedrasulov was arrested on July 21 and subsequently remanded in custody without bail until September 16. A court ruling on September 12 extended his detention until October 21.

On September 16, SBU and the State Bureau of Investigations (DBR) announced new charges against Magamedrasulov, alleging that he used his connections and official influence to engage in illegal tax schemes involving Ukrainian businesses.

Yusuf Mameshev has been acquitted by a Kyiv court in a case against NABU detective Ruslan Magamedrasulov, prompting prosecutors to announce plans for an appeal. Magamedrasulov faces serious allegations related to the illegal sale of industrial hemp to Russia.
