The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that 189 combat engagements occurred along the front lines since the start of the day. The most significant concentration of Russian attacks was noted in the Pokrovsk direction, where 25 assaults were recorded.
Russian troops attempted to advance in areas including Vylne, Novyi Donbas, Rodynske, Novooleksandrivka, Shevchenko, Pokrovsk, Bilitske, Hryshyne, Udachne, and Novopavlivka. Two clashes in these regions are still ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, 22 Russian attacks were documented, with three confrontations continuing at present. Ukrainian defense forces successfully repelled 12 assaults in the Kostiantynivka area, which includes the settlements of Kostiantynivka, Illinivka, Ivanopillia, Rusynyi Yar, and Stepaniivka, with one engagement still in progress.
Combat operations are also active in the Northern Slobozhanskyi, Kursk, Southern Slobozhanskyi, Kupiansk, Lyman, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Oleksandrivka, Orikhiv, and Dniprovsk directions.
On May 21, the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) indicated that Ukrainian forces are regaining tactical initiative in various sections of the front line. Earlier, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated in a press meeting that Ukraine has managed to significantly slow the advance of Russian forces and gradually regain initiative due to the efforts of Ukrainian military personnel and other factors, including the disabling of Starlink for the aggressor and an increase in medium-range drone strikes.
In a video address on May 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asserted that Ukraine currently holds stronger positions along the front.
