Ukrainian Air Defense Intercepts Majority of Russian Drone Attack

During the night of June 16, Ukrainian air defense forces successfully neutralized 114 out of 132 drones launched by Russian military forces. The attack, which involved multiple types of drones and missiles, was reported by the Ukrainian Air Force early on June 16.

According to the Air Force, the assault commenced at 18:00 on June 15, utilizing two Iskander-M ballistic missiles along with 132 strike drones, including Shahed models, Gerbera, Italmas, and imitation drones known as Parody.

The defense response included aviation units, surface-to-air missile systems, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups from the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

  • As of 08:30, preliminary reports indicated that air defense had downed or suppressed 114 Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas drones, and others across northern, southern, and eastern regions of Ukraine.
  • Missile impacts and 16 strike drones were recorded at nine locations, with debris from downed drones falling at eight sites.

The assault is ongoing, with Russian drones still present in Ukrainian airspace, as warned by the Air Force.
