EU to Open Five Clusters in Ukraine Accession Talks on July 14

The European Union has scheduled the opening of five negotiation clusters in Ukraine’s accession talks for July 14. This announcement was made during a recent meeting of EU ministers, although the date has yet to be officially listed on the EU Council’s calendar.

European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi, hinted at this development during a press conference in Luxembourg on June 15, stating, “Today is a mega Monday for me… I hope we will have an incredible Tuesday in July.” This comment suggests that the opening of the remaining clusters could coincide with the planned date.

On June 15, the EU officially commenced negotiations with Kyiv regarding the first negotiation cluster, marking a significant step in Ukraine’s efforts to join the bloc. The Cypriot presidency has provided Ukraine with interim and final criteria for the negotiations, known as benchmarks, which outline the conditions for accession.

Taras Kachka, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, expressed confidence that EU member states would reach a unanimous agreement on the opening of the remaining five negotiation clusters.

As the EU continues to engage with Ukraine, the focus remains on advancing the accession process and meeting the established benchmarks.

The EU has announced that it will open five negotiation clusters in Ukraine's accession talks on July 14. This follows the official start of negotiations with Kyiv on June 15, which marks a significant milestone in Ukraine's path towards EU membership.
