The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has released details regarding upcoming changes to military compensation and service contracts, addressing common questions from service members. Key changes include guaranteed monthly combat payments for injured soldiers and a gradual release of long-serving personnel.
According to the Ministry, soldiers who sustain injuries and require hospitalization will continue to receive combat payments of 100,000 hryvnias per month for up to 12 months. This measure aims to provide financial support during recovery.
In a response to inquiries about the timeline for releasing personnel who have served since 2014 and 2022, officials stated that a gradual release process will begin by the end of the year. Priority will be given to those with the longest service and combat experience.
Regarding salary adjustments, the Ministry explained that while base salaries have not significantly increased, additional payments have been introduced. The initial phase of the transformation focuses on enhancing compensation for frontline troops, with average salaries for infantry expected to reach 300,000 hryvnias per month, and a maximum of 460,000 hryvnias.
Base salaries for support roles will rise from 20,000 to 30,000 hryvnias, supported by a new 10,000 hryvnia bonus for those in rear positions. The Ministry indicated that these changes are funded through existing resources.
For soldiers considering signing new contracts, the Ministry emphasized that those who do so in June will see increased salaries starting in July. The new contracts will also introduce clear service terms and guaranteed deferments based on combat experience, allowing service members greater control over their military careers.
In related developments, the Ministry announced that soldiers who left their units voluntarily before June 12, 2026, can return to service by September 20, 2026, under a new procedure that allows them to choose their units from a specified list.
Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov elaborated on how deferments will be calculated following the completion of contracts, aiming to provide clearer guidelines for service members.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has outlined new compensation policies and contract changes for military personnel, including enhanced payments for injured soldiers and a structured release plan for long-serving members. These adjustments aim to improve financial support and clarify service terms.
