Ukraine Implements Monthly Recruitment for Military Units

Olha Reshetylova, the Ukrainian President’s Commissioner for the Protection of Soldiers’ Rights, has announced that each military unit is now mandated to receive at least 50 new recruits monthly. This initiative aims to bolster troop numbers amid ongoing military engagements.

In an interview with Suspilne, Reshetylova explained that the monthly distribution of recruits is one of three primary channels for military replenishment. In addition to this mandatory allocation, units are also recruiting independently and drawing from reserve battalions, which include personnel who previously left their units without authorization.

This recruitment mechanism was initiated by the President and has been referred to in the media as a “fair distribution.” Reshetylova characterized it as a form of direct mobilization, emphasizing that every combat unit receives a steady influx of personnel to ensure adequate replacements for deployed soldiers.

She clarified that the distribution is not biased towards assault units, countering claims that new recruits are primarily assigned to these forces. Previously, assault troops, airborne assault units, and naval infantry received the first influx of personnel, but the current system ensures equal distribution across all brigades.

Reshetylova stated that she has verified these figures during her visits to the front lines, asking commanders about the number of soldiers they received each month. “Every brigade confirmed receiving at least 50 new personnel,” she noted.

This systematic distribution allows commanders to plan rotations more effectively and improve operational conditions in their areas of responsibility. Reshetylova added that preliminary research from her office indicates that soldiers begin to experience apathy after approximately 40 days in position, with a critical decline in effectiveness occurring between 40 and 60 days, depending on individual resilience and the intensity of combat.
