Ukraine Declares Day of Mourning Following Deadly Attacks Amid Ongoing Conflict

On May 6, 2026, Ukraine marked the 1,533rd day of resistance against Russia’s full-scale invasion. The conflict continues to escalate, with significant casualties reported in several cities on May 5.

In a statement, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a ceasefire regime effective from midnight on May 5 to May 6, indicating that it would be reciprocated. He emphasized, however, that there had been no official request from Russia to halt hostilities.

Throughout May 5, Russian forces conducted attacks on multiple Ukrainian cities, resulting in numerous fatalities. In Zaporizhzhia, 12 individuals lost their lives, while Kramatorsk reported six deaths and Dnipro four.

In response to the tragedy in Kramatorsk, local authorities have declared a day of mourning to honor the victims of the Russian assault.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has seen a recent surge in violence, with significant casualties reported from Russian attacks on May 5. President Zelensky has announced a temporary ceasefire, although no formal request for peace has been made by Russia.
