UK and Nine European Nations Form Naval Alliance to Counter Russian Threats

The United Kingdom, alongside nine European nations, has announced the establishment of a new naval alliance aimed at enhancing security in the face of potential threats from Russia. This initiative was revealed by Admiral Gwyn Jenkins, head of the Royal Navy, who emphasized the alliance’s role in complementing NATO.

According to Jenkins, the newly formed coalition intends to address future Russian challenges emerging from the open maritime borders in the north. He stated,

“Russia remains the most serious threat to our security.”

During his address, Jenkins highlighted that the ten participating countries, part of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), signed a declaration last week to create multinational naval forces. These forces are designed to operate as a supplement to NATO.

Jenkins further explained that the naval alliance will be equipped for immediate combat operations if necessary, with concrete capabilities, operational plans, and genuine integration.

Notably, the United States will not be part of this new alliance, a decision that may stem from previous criticisms directed at the UK by former President Donald Trump.

In related developments, the British military recently uncovered a covert operation involving Russian submarines operating near UK waters. Reports indicated that one submarine was acting as a distraction while other Russian vessels from the Main Directorate for Deep-Sea Research (GUGI) engaged in activities threatening critical underwater infrastructure. This includes fiber-optic cables that facilitate over 99% of international internet and telephone traffic, which are vital to the global financial and trade systems.

The UK and nine European nations have formed a new naval alliance to counter potential Russian threats, enhancing security in northern maritime regions. This initiative follows recent military findings regarding Russian submarine activities near UK waters.
