Two farmers in the Chernihiv region of Ukraine have died after attempting to dismantle a strike drone they discovered in a field. The incident has raised concerns about the dangers posed by unexploded ordnance in agricultural areas.
Serhiy Beskrestnov, an advisor to the Minister of Defense, confirmed the fatalities via social media. He stated, “Both farmers were killed while trying to take apart the drone they found. I continually strive to raise awareness about such incidents in hopes of saving lives of those who might consider similar actions.”
This tragic event follows a similar occurrence in the Sumy region, where two civilians lost their lives due to the detonation of drone parts they were loading into a vehicle. These incidents underscore the risks faced by civilians in conflict-affected areas, particularly in rural settings where agricultural activities intersect with remnants of military operations.
Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and report any suspicious objects to the relevant authorities instead of attempting to handle them personally. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has led to an increase in the presence of unexploded munitions, posing a persistent threat to civilian safety.
