U.S. President Donald Trump recently shared his views on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Chinese leader Xi Jinping, describing such interactions as “positive.” He emphasized his good relationships with both leaders during a press briefing.
Trump stated that he considers the engagement between Putin and Xi to be a “normal part of international politics.” He also noted that he observed the ceremonial aspects of the visit, comparing them to similar events in the U.S., where he claimed the American organization was superior.
Trump’s remarks came shortly after his arrival in Beijing on May 13, where he was accompanied by over a dozen executives from major American companies, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, Tesla’s Elon Musk, and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang.
On May 14, Trump met with Xi Jinping in Beijing, where they discussed various topics including trade relations, the U.S. conflict with Iran, and the situation in Taiwan.
Following his visit, Trump announced that China would be purchasing oil from the U.S., a statement that went unaddressed by Chinese officials.
This trip marks Trump’s first state visit to China in nearly nine years, with his last visit occurring in November 2017 during his first term.
On May 19, Vladimir Putin also arrived in China for a two-day visit, further highlighting the ongoing diplomatic engagements between the nations.
President Trump has acknowledged the significance of the recent interactions between Putin and Xi, while also emphasizing his own strong ties with both leaders. His visit to China included discussions on trade and geopolitical issues, marking a notable diplomatic moment.
