Poland Signs Deal with Honeywell for First European M1 Abrams Engine Service Center

On May 18, Poland’s government finalized a contract with American corporation Honeywell to establish the first authorized service center in Europe for the AGT1500 engines used in M1 Abrams tanks.

The Polish Ministry of Defense announced that the project will be managed by WZL-1, a company within the PGZ group, which has extensive experience in the overhaul, modernization, and maintenance of aviation technology and engines.

The initiative is estimated to cost around 300 million zlotys (approximately 70 million euros) and will involve the construction of technical infrastructure, acquisition of specialized equipment, and the preparation of repair documentation along with licensing rights.

According to the agreement, the service center is set to commence operations in 2028 in the town of Dęblin, with the capacity to service several dozen engines annually.

“There are only three places in the world where such centers operate – the USA, Australia, and now Poland. This is the best evidence of the durability, reliability, and prospects of Polish-American cooperation,” stated Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during the contract signing.

Poland has purchased a total of 366 modern American Abrams tanks, which are expected to be integrated into the Polish Armed Forces by the end of 2026.

Poland has secured a significant partnership with Honeywell to create a service center for M1 Abrams tank engines, marking a milestone in European defense capabilities. The project, set to begin in 2028, underscores the strengthening ties between Poland and the United States in military cooperation.
