Russian Forces Set Ambitious Goals for Kramatorsk Offensive by End of May

Russian military leadership has directed its troops to reach the outskirts of Kramatorsk by May 30, according to statements made by Olga Kosenko, spokesperson for the 56th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade of Ukraine.

Kosenko reported that intelligence indicates this timeline is part of a broader strategy, noting that such ambitious plans have been announced previously. She expressed skepticism regarding the feasibility of these objectives, suggesting that local commanders may report progress that does not reflect the actual situation on the ground.

In the area under the brigade’s responsibility, Ukrainian forces are bracing for increased pressure near the settlements of Maiske and Virolyubivka. This assessment aligns with recent observations from the acting commander of the 3rd Battalion of the 101st Separate Brigade of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who goes by the call sign “Tuman.”

Tuman indicated that Russian troops have been attempting to infiltrate the battalion’s combat formations consistently. He noted that enemy activity tends to intensify during adverse weather conditions, although the use of terrain cover has not significantly altered Russian tactics, which remain consistent with previous operations.

On the Kramatorsk front, Russian forces are reportedly augmenting their presence by redeploying additional units. The use of ground-based robotic systems has become a notable aspect of their strategy.

“Any unit positioned along the frontline faces a considerable challenge, as the so-called ‘gray zone’ encompasses a large area, sometimes including entire settlements,” Tuman explained. He emphasized that logistics for troop movements are increasingly reliant on these robotic systems, utilized by both Ukrainian and Russian forces.

“The enemy has been using heavy equipment less frequently. Recently, during one of their assaults, they deployed tanks, one of which was destroyed by our drone operators,” Tuman stated, referring to a T-72B3 tank.

Russian military commands have set a deadline for their troops to reach Kramatorsk by the end of May, amidst ongoing reports of increased military activity in the region. Ukrainian forces remain vigilant as they prepare for potential escalations in combat operations.
