Ukraine Plans to Establish Language Coordination Council

Ukraine is in the process of forming a Coordination Council aimed at addressing issues related to the use of the state language. This initiative was announced by the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Olena Ivanovska, during a broadcast on Kyiv24.

Ivanovska stated that the proposed council will serve as a platform for making urgent decisions to tackle various challenges. She emphasized the need for representation from multiple government bodies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Security and Defense Council, and the Ministry of Education. According to her, the Ministry of Education plays a crucial role in fostering language resilience among the younger generation.

“This collaborative forum should address significant issues, as relying solely on the Ministry of Culture is unlikely to provide comprehensive solutions to the global challenges faced by the state language and national culture,” she remarked.

Consumption of Russian Content in Ukraine

As the conflict with Russia enters its fifth year, research indicates that over 70% of Ukrainians continue to consume Russian-language content. This trend is attributed to the widespread availability of Russian-language products rather than ideological beliefs.

In response, the State Committee of Ukraine for Television and Radio Broadcasting is preparing a draft resolution to establish a mechanism for removing Russian-published materials and products created in the Russian language from circulation in Ukraine. The committee is actively working on this initiative.
