Two police officers in Kyiv, identified as Mykhailo Drobnytskyi and Anna Dudina, have been charged with negligence related to their actions during a shooting incident in the Holosiivskyi district. A bail of 266,240 hryvnias (approximately $7,000) has been set for each officer, as confirmed by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
On April 22, defense attorney Mykhailo Bakhovskyi announced that the legal team is preparing appeals against the bail conditions and is actively raising funds to secure their release.
Earlier, on April 21, the Pechersk District Court imposed a preventive measure of 60 days of detention with the option for bail for both officers, who reportedly fled the scene during the shooting.
Details of the Shooting Incident
The shooting occurred on April 18 when a man opened fire on pedestrians in the Holosiivskyi district before taking hostages in a supermarket. The assailant was neutralized during a police raid on the store. The attack resulted in the deaths of six individuals, with 14 others injured, including a child. The Security Service of Ukraine has classified the incident as a terrorist act.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko has ordered an internal investigation into the actions of the police officers, who have been suspended from their duties pending the outcome of the inquiry. This decision followed the circulation of video footage on social media showing the officers fleeing when gunfire erupted. As a consequence of their actions during the attack, Yevhen Zhukov, the head of the Patrol Police Department of Ukraine, has resigned.
As of April 20, the death toll had risen to seven after one of the injured succumbed to their wounds in the hospital. The two patrol officers are facing charges of negligence resulting in serious consequences due to their conduct during the terrorist attack.
