Donald Trump is set to present the FIFA World Cup trophy during the tournament’s final match in 2026, according to FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The event will take place on July 19, 2026, in New Jersey, marking a significant moment for both the tournament and the former U.S. president.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will begin on June 13, with the United States hosting its first match, where the national team will face Paraguay. This match will be a part of the tournament’s inaugural festivities, although Trump has not attended any games since the tournament’s commencement.
“We will enjoy the final together with the president [of the United States] and present the trophy to the winners, of course. We are always together,” Infantino stated.
Trump previously participated in the award ceremony for the 2025 Club World Cup, which was also held in the U.S. During that event, he celebrated with Chelsea players on stage after they won the title.
“I thought he would leave the stage, but he wanted to stay,” recalled Chelsea captain Reece James. “Trump congratulated me and the team on lifting the trophy and told us to enjoy the moment.”
Historically, heads of state have been involved in World Cup award ceremonies. Notably, in 1982, King Juan Carlos of Spain presented the trophy to the Italian national team, while Queen Elizabeth II awarded it to England in 1966.
Donald Trump will present the FIFA World Cup trophy at the 2026 final in New Jersey, as confirmed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino. This marks a notable role for Trump in the tournament, which begins on June 13, 2026.
