The city of Sevastopol has experienced a complete power outage following a significant drone attack targeting its energy infrastructure on the night of June 24. The incident was confirmed by Mikhail Razvozhayev, the appointed governor of the temporarily occupied city, through a Telegram post.
Witnesses reported a series of powerful explosions throughout the night, with the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant identified as the primary target. This facility is one of the key power stations on the Crimean Peninsula.
“As a result of the enemy’s attack on our energy infrastructure, the city has temporarily lost electricity supply,” Razvozhayev stated.
He further remarked, “We will not be intimidated by the lack of light. We have endured worse and will withstand this as well.” Currently, the extent of the damage at the Balaklava plant is being assessed. The local authorities are urging residents to conserve battery power on their mobile devices.
In addition to Sevastopol, explosions were also reported in the cities of Bakhchisarai and Kerch, as well as near Mount Ai-Petri, where a radar station operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces is located.
Prior to the drone strikes, on the evening of June 23, Oleg Kryuchkov, an advisor to the head of the annexed peninsula, announced the implementation of scheduled power outages across Crimea. Preliminary reports indicate that approximately half of the peninsula has been left without electricity.
- Ukrainian drone forces previously claimed responsibility for targeting fuel tanks at the Kerch Thermal Power Plant and the 330/110 kV substation known as “Western Crimea.”
Sevastopol has been plunged into darkness following a drone attack on its energy infrastructure, particularly affecting the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant. The local authorities are currently assessing the damage while urging residents to conserve energy.
