Kostyuk’s journey to the semifinals included a notable victory over the world’s 13th-ranked player, Linda Noskova from the Czech Republic, in the quarterfinals. This achievement marks her second semifinal appearance at a WTA 1000 event, equaling her personal best.
The match against Potapova was their fifth encounter, with both players previously holding two wins each. Their last meeting took place earlier in the tournament, where Kostyuk emerged victorious in the round of 16.
In the first set of the semifinal, Kostyuk dominated, winning 6-2. She started strong with a 3-0 lead and, despite missing three set points, clinched the set on her fourth attempt. However, the second set saw a shift in momentum as she managed to secure only one game, losing 1-6.
Determined to turn the tide, Kostyuk rebounded in the final set, racing to a 4-0 lead and preventing Potapova from recovering.
