U.S. President Donald Trump is considering a proposal to encourage American defense companies to manufacture weapons under license in Europe and Ukraine. This initiative aims to bolster Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, particularly in the realm of air defense.
Reports indicate that Ukraine requires advanced air defense systems, including interceptor missiles, to counter Russian ballistic threats. However, the production of these missiles is currently limited to U.S. manufacturers.
During a recent G7 summit, Trump informed allies that, due to depleted U.S. stockpiles, particularly from engagements in Iran, he would explore the possibility of licensing production to enable European and Ukrainian facilities to manufacture these crucial defense systems.
Officials speaking on condition of anonymity confirmed this information, and Trump himself addressed the issue publicly. “They would like to be able to do this, and we will look into it,” he stated in response to questions from reporters at the summit.
