Ukrainian President Discusses G7 Summit Outcomes with Trump and Macron

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently shared insights from his discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron following the G7 summit in France. In a post on his Telegram channel, Zelensky characterized the conversations as significant.

He stated,

“This was an important coordination conversation that could lead to substantial changes. We summarized our discussions from the G7 summit. I am grateful to President Trump for his attention to Ukraine and his readiness to assist in achieving peace. I also thank Emmanuel for the excellent organization of the summit and our consistently strong collaboration. We are working to strengthen Ukraine, our cooperation, and diplomatic prospects.”

The G7 summit took place from June 15 to 17 in Évian-les-Bains, a resort town on the shores of Lake Geneva. Key topics included peace negotiations to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the situation surrounding Iran, particularly the agreement with the United States and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

President Zelensky participated in a working session of the G7 on June 16, arriving at the summit early Tuesday morning, where he was welcomed by President Macron.

During the summit, Trump and Zelensky met informally, with reports indicating that the discussions led Trump to adopt a firmer stance on pressuring Russia, especially in light of recent successes by the Ukrainian armed forces on the battlefield.

Macron emphasized that the document agreed upon during the G7 summit reaffirms Ukraine’s territorial integrity. He also noted that the summit participants collectively concluded that Russia currently shows no serious willingness to engage in peace negotiations.
