Ukrainians Face Unfavorable Exchange Conditions for Old Dollar Bills

In Ukraine, individuals are encountering unfavorable conditions when exchanging old dollar bills, a practice deemed unlawful by financial authorities.

During a recent interview, journalists highlighted that currency exchange points in Ukraine are once again imposing additional fees or offering poor rates for what are referred to as “old dollars.”

“These practices are absolutely unlawful. There is no shortage of exchange points in the country, both in banks and non-bank financial institutions. If clients agree to such dubious offers, they are taking a risk. However, I would like these facts to be known to the National Bank of Ukraine,” stated the head of the National Bank.

Despite the challenges in monitoring every transaction at exchange points, the regulatory body responds to known incidents and takes action against violators.

In light of these issues, the head of the National Bank has urged citizens to report any such practices to the regulator and to avoid exchanges under unfavorable conditions.

He also advised individuals facing difficulties in exchanging old dollar bills to either seek out another exchange point or file an official complaint with the National Bank for investigation.

Ukrainians are facing unlawful practices when exchanging old dollar bills, prompting the National Bank to encourage reporting and vigilance among citizens. The regulator acknowledges its limitations in monitoring all transactions but is committed to addressing known violations.
