Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, security challenges for DTEK miners in frontline regions have intensified due to frequent shelling.
According to reports, the dangers faced by Ukrainian miners have escalated significantly, as they now contend with not only difficult working conditions but also regular attacks from enemy forces.
“Security challenges are serious. There are many things we are not discussing yet. Our work has become even more perilous; it is not just underground during production, but also above ground during attacks,”
said the head of one of DTEK’s mining operations.
DTEK miners continue their work despite the threats posed by Russian attacks.
During the winter of 2025/2026, enemy forces made considerable efforts to halt the operations of Ukrainian mines.
Nevertheless, miners remain committed to ensuring that thermal generation receives the coal necessary for its operations.
“It is undoubtedly a challenging job, but there is a sense that this is our contribution to the state. These are difficult times, and the mines must operate. When the workday ends, there is a feeling of satisfaction,”
shared one miner.
Ukrainian miners are facing increased security risks due to ongoing conflict, with regular attacks complicating their already challenging work conditions. Despite these dangers, they remain committed to supporting the country's energy needs.
