The Ukrainian government has announced an extension of its fuel cashback program, now set to last until May 31. Initially scheduled to end on May 1, the program will continue as fuel prices remain elevated due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Under the revised terms, the monthly cashback limit for drivers has been reduced from 1,000 hryvnias to 500 hryvnias. Despite this change, the compensation rates for fuel purchases remain unchanged: drivers will receive 15% cashback on diesel, 10% on gasoline, and 5% on autogas.
To qualify for the cashback, participants must enroll in the “National Cashback” program. The process involves selecting a partner bank, obtaining a National Cashback card, and authorizing the bank to share transaction data from purchases made with this card at participating fuel stations.
Eligible fuel stations for cashback include major providers such as Ukrnafta, OKKO, WOG, and several others. However, cashback is not available for purchases made through fuel station apps.
Cashback funds are credited the day after a fuel purchase, but actual payments to the card occur in the following month. For instance, cashback for April purchases will be received by the end of May.
Funds from the National Cashback card can be used for various expenses, including utility bills, charitable donations, food, medical supplies, and books produced in Ukraine that are sold at participating outlets. Transferring funds to other bank cards is not permitted.
The extension of the cashback program comes in response to a fuel crisis triggered by military operations involving the U.S. and Israel against Iran, which have significantly impacted global oil prices. This situation has prompted the Ukrainian Cabinet to implement measures aimed at alleviating the financial burden on citizens. Additionally, the Antimonopoly Committee has given fuel networks ten days to establish reasonable pricing.
