The United States has condemned recent Russian missile strikes on Kyiv, describing them as a “barbaric escalation” of violence. During a United Nations meeting, Deputy US Ambassador to the UN, Tami Bruce, urged Moscow to cease hostilities and engage in negotiations.
Bruce highlighted that the latest attacks, which included the use of ballistic missiles, have resulted in civilian casualties, with over a hundred individuals reported injured. She characterized these strikes as “unjustifiable, dangerous, and barbaric.”
In her remarks, Bruce pointed to the destruction of various structures, including a museum, public transport facilities, and residential buildings. She stated that such actions by Russia are “unacceptable and abhorrent.”
Furthermore, Bruce warned that continued assaults on Kyiv could hinder diplomatic efforts and complicate the prospects for peace. She expressed concern over Russia’s failure to adhere to international obligations regarding the protection of diplomatic missions and personnel.
“We remind Russia in clear terms of its legal obligations… The United States again calls for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire as a step toward a sustainable negotiated resolution to the war,” Bruce stated, emphasizing that diplomacy and dialogue are the only viable paths to peace.
Bruce further noted that the alternative scenario involves a continued “escalation of violence” that could spiral out of control, which she deemed unacceptable. She affirmed that the United States is prepared to play a constructive role if both parties are genuinely committed to achieving peace.
