Ukrainian defense units have targeted the Yaroslavl oil refinery in northern Russia, marking a significant escalation in their military operations against Russian infrastructure. The attack occurred between April 25 and the early hours of April 26, 2026, as part of a broader campaign against enemy positions in both Russia and temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
The Yaroslavl refinery is a strategically vital facility within Russia’s oil processing sector, with an annual processing capacity of approximately 15 million tons of crude oil. The plant produces essential fuels, including gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, which are critical for the logistics of the Russian military. Reports indicate that a fire has broken out at the site following the strike.
As of now, the extent of the damage caused by the attack is still being assessed. In addition to the refinery strike, Ukrainian forces have also engaged military convoys in the areas of Menchugove and Kelerivka, located in the temporarily occupied Donetsk region.
On April 24, Ukrainian forces confirmed successful strikes on a radar station, Kasta-2E1, in Melitopol, Zaporizhia Oblast, as well as on a Pantsir-S1 air defense system in Mariupol, Donetsk Oblast. The losses incurred by Russian forces and the overall impact of these operations are currently under evaluation.
