Ukrainian Forces Intensify Strikes on Russian Logistics Across Frontlines

The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports that Ukrainian forces have significantly escalated their medium-range strikes targeting Russian logistical networks, impacting operations from occupied Luhansk to Crimea. This offensive has disrupted Russian supply lines and hindered military movements across southern Ukraine.

According to the ISW, recent months have seen a marked increase in Ukrainian attacks on Russian logistics, leading to cascading effects on the battlefield. These strikes have created logistical challenges for Russian troops, particularly in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk, as confirmed by Russian military bloggers who noted severe fuel shortages and difficulties in personnel rotation and ammunition supply.

Ukrainian forces have expanded their operational reach, targeting key highways including M-03 (Sloviansk-Bakhmut), M-14, and M-30 (Luhansk-Donetsk). The ISW noted that these recent offensives have compelled Russian forces to impose restrictions on the M-14 highway, a vital land route connecting occupied Crimea to Russia.

Ukrainian military operations have effectively broadened the operational area of medium-range drones, disrupting Russia’s ability to transport personnel to the front lines and maintain their positions. This shift has undermined Russian tactics that relied on steady advancements in recent months.

On May 27, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced the initiation of a “logistical lockdown” against Russian forces, emphasizing the expansion of Ukraine’s medium-range strike campaign on Russian supply lines. He noted that Ukrainian forces have quadrupled their impact on Russian logistics, targeting supply routes, warehouses, equipment, and command centers.

In an interview with CBS News, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russian forces are currently unable to occupy more territory in a month than Ukrainian forces can reclaim. He stressed the importance of finding a diplomatic resolution before the next winter, contingent on internal pressures on Putin and sanctions from the U.S. and Europe, which he believes are increasing.

On May 21, the ISW indicated that Ukrainian forces are regaining tactical initiative across various sectors of the front line.

Ukrainian military operations have intensified, targeting Russian logistics and disrupting supply lines from Luhansk to Crimea. This strategic shift has created significant challenges for Russian forces, affecting their operational capabilities across the region.
