Ukrainian engineers have introduced a groundbreaking missile system named DART, designed to be launched from stratospheric balloons. This innovative technology is noted for its resilience against enemy electronic warfare systems.
The DART missile is developed by the Center of Innovative Technologies Program, which has created a unique air-launch system. The missile is elevated to altitudes between 12 and 18 kilometers before being launched, allowing for strategic deployment from high altitudes.
Precision in flight is maintained by specialized servos that ensure a stable trajectory, regardless of the conditions during release. The compact missile measures 1.84 meters in length and weighs just 13 kilograms.
The warhead’s weight varies based on the mission, ranging from 3.5 to 10 kilograms, and incorporates unique graphite-based destructive elements.
A standout feature of the DART system is its immunity to radio-electronic interference. The missile initially utilizes a navigation system, but this changes as it descends to around 6 kilometers. At this point, the navigation system is disabled, and a solid-fuel engine is activated, allowing the missile to continue toward its target without altering its course. This design renders it impervious to enemy jamming efforts.
The DART project is a collaborative effort, with the balloons being produced by partners of the developer. The missile is now preparing for official recognition.
Upcoming plans include the codification process within the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, which will pave the way for state orders. Additionally, the company aims to develop a full-scale ballistic missile and is also working on a surface-to-air version for aerial defense.
Further advancements in Ukraine’s defense capabilities were confirmed by the Minister of Defense, who stated that powerful ballistic weapons are being developed for strikes against Russian forces. He emphasized that Ukrainian ballistic technology will significantly alter the dynamics of the ongoing conflict and enhance Ukraine’s global standing.
Moreover, the Ukrainian company Fire Point has completed the development of the FP-7.x anti-ballistic missile, which has successfully undergone testing.
Ukraine's DART missile system represents a significant advancement in military technology, showcasing resilience against electronic warfare. As the country prepares for official recognition and state orders, further developments in ballistic capabilities are underway.
