A Russian drone crossed into Romanian airspace during an attack on Ukraine on the night of April 17. The Romanian National Military Command Center alerted the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations to inform residents in the northern part of Tulcea County.
Romanian air defense systems detected two aerial targets in the border area. One of these targets entered Romanian airspace but lost radar contact approximately 16 kilometers southeast of the commune of Kilia Veche, over uninhabited terrain.
“The Ministry of National Defense team is prepared to embark on a reconnaissance mission in the area this morning. We strongly condemn the actions of the Russian Federation, which threaten regional security and constitute a serious violation of international law,” stated the ministry.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense further noted that it is coordinating efforts with relevant allied and national services and is ready to take necessary measures to protect Romania’s territory and its population.
