Former Education Official Sentenced to Seven Years for Corruption in Kyiv

A former official from the Dnipro District Education Department in Kyiv, Olha Drozdova, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for misappropriating budget funds intended for school supplies. The court also ordered the confiscation of her assets.

According to the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, Drozdova, who is currently abroad for medical treatment, participated in the court proceedings via video link. She was found guilty of financial misconduct related to the procurement of vegetable cutters and chairs for school shelters in the Dnipro district.

Prosecutors established that during the procurement process in 2023, Drozdova overpaid more than 460,000 UAH for the vegetable cutters. The Dnipro District Court in Kyiv imposed a five-year prison sentence for this specific charge, along with a three-year ban on holding positions related to organizational and administrative functions.

In a separate case concerning the purchase of chairs for school shelters, the Education Department was found to have overpaid nearly 1.35 million UAH. For this offense, Drozdova was sentenced to an additional seven years in prison, with the same three-year ban on relevant positions and the confiscation of her property.

The court also approved civil claims for the damages incurred, filed by prosecutors on behalf of the state.
