The Krasnodar Krai region of Russia experienced a series of drone attacks late on April 28, primarily affecting the Tuapse Oil Refinery and the nearby maritime terminal. Local residents reported hearing multiple explosions after midnight, with some describing visible flashes in the sky.
Witnesses noted, “Occasional gunfire can be heard, and bright flashes are visible in the sky. In one area, a fire broke out at the site where drone debris fell, with flames and smoke visible.” This incident has heightened security concerns in the region.
In response to the drone threat, authorities imposed restrictions on the arrival and departure of aircraft at airports in Krasnodar, Gelendzhik, and Sochi. Social media posts indicated that the Tuapse terminal and refinery were again under assault, with reports of several direct hits but no fires ignited, as air defense systems were reportedly active over the sea.
The attacks specifically targeted a tank farm located near the ELOU-AVT-12 facility, leading to reports of two tanks catching fire. Subsequent updates confirmed another wave of attacks on Tuapse, with firefighters still battling blazes at the port and refinery.
Social media users recalled previous drone strikes on Tuapse, which had resulted in oil spills. Following those incidents, local residents reported issues such as “oil rains,” with wildlife in the area affected by patches of fuel.
Krasnodar Krai faced renewed drone attacks targeting key oil facilities, resulting in explosions and fires. The incidents have raised security measures at local airports and highlighted ongoing concerns over environmental impacts from previous strikes.
