Ukraine’s Zelensky Open to Easter Ceasefire Amid Concerns Over Russian Military Gains

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed the country’s willingness to establish a ceasefire with Russia during the Easter holidays. This announcement was made during a press briefing with journalists.

When asked whether Kyiv would propose an Easter ceasefire and what international guarantees would be necessary to prevent Russia from using the pause to strengthen its military positions, Zelensky stated,

“We have supported any formats for ending the war, as you know. But when you do not lose the dignity and independence of our state, a ceasefire in any format, as we have already discussed today, is acceptable. We are ready for a ceasefire during the Easter holidays. In my opinion, if we are honest, normal people who respect life talk about a ceasefire and ending the war for life, not for a few days,”

he said.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is open to any compromises, except those that would undermine the nation’s dignity and sovereignty. He also addressed the potential risks of Russia fortifying its military positions during the proposed ceasefire, noting,

“In two or three days, they will not be able to strengthen anything. We remember what they promised in three days and what they failed to achieve.”

This statement comes as Ukraine continues to navigate the complexities of its ongoing conflict with Russia, seeking to balance military strategy with diplomatic efforts.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has indicated a readiness for a ceasefire with Russia during the Easter period, while expressing concerns about potential military advantages for Russia. He reiterated Ukraine's commitment to maintaining its sovereignty and dignity in any negotiations.
