Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced his arrival in Qatar on March 28, emphasizing the significance of international partnerships for stability and peace. In a public address, he expressed gratitude for the support from allies and reiterated Ukraine’s openness to collaborate with nations committed to enhancing security.
During his visit, Zelensky held discussions with Qatar’s Emir, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, alongside the country’s Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The talks focused on bolstering the protection of citizens and led to a decade-long agreement on mutually beneficial defense cooperation.
Following the discussions, military chiefs from both nations signed an agreement aimed at fostering joint projects in the defense sector, including co-production initiatives and technological partnerships between companies.
Zelensky briefed his Qatari counterparts on the ongoing security challenges in Ukraine, particularly the persistent attacks from Russia and its collaboration with the Iranian regime. He underscored the urgent need for enhanced air defense systems and expressed hope for continued support from international partners.
The Ukrainian leader thanked the Emir for the warm reception and the collaborative spirit demonstrated during their meetings. He also noted that 228 Ukrainian specialists are currently in the Middle East, assisting local air defense forces in countering Iranian drone threats.
Additionally, Zelensky revealed that Ukraine has received 11 requests from neighboring countries of Iran, as well as European nations and the United States, seeking security assistance to combat Iranian threats and related challenges.
