As a severe heatwave is set to blanket much of Western Europe, Ukraine is expected to remain largely unaffected, with temperatures reaching up to 30 degrees Celsius on Monday. Meteorologist Natalka Didenko confirmed that the extreme heat will not cross into Ukrainian territory.
Countries like France and Spain are bracing for soaring temperatures, with thermometers potentially exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. The heat is anticipated to spread across most European nations, excluding the Scandinavian regions, prompting health warnings for those traveling to or residing in the affected areas.
In Ukraine, however, the forecast indicates a more temperate climate. Didenko noted that on June 22, temperatures will range from 25 to 29 degrees Celsius, with some areas possibly reaching 30 degrees under strong sunlight. The weather will be pleasant for most of the country.
Short-lived thunderstorms and rain are expected in western and northern regions, as well as parts of Cherkasy and Poltava. The eastern areas, including Kharkiv, may also see some evening rain. The rest of Ukraine will likely remain dry.
In Kyiv, residents can anticipate warm weather, with temperatures climbing to 30 degrees Celsius. Occasional rain and thunderstorms are forecasted, and Didenko warned that even brief showers could lead to sudden heavy downpours.
While the oppressive heat affecting Western Europe poses no immediate threat to Ukraine, Didenko emphasized that the situation could change.
Weather Outlook for Ukraine and Europe
Previously, tourists in Europe were cautioned about the impending heatwave, particularly in countries like Portugal, Spain, and France, where temperatures could soar to 45 degrees Celsius in some inland areas. The peak of this heat is expected between June 22 and June 26.
In contrast, Ukraine is bracing for a new wave of rain. According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms is anticipated in the western, northern, and most central regions on Monday.
