Zelensky Optimistic About Constructive Relations with New Hungarian Government

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope for a constructive stance from Hungary’s new leadership regarding Ukraine. During an online discussion with media representatives, he addressed potential meetings with the new Hungarian government and the evolving position of Budapest towards Ukraine.

Zelensky stated, “I very much hope that Hungary’s position will be constructive towards us. We will also demonstrate steps towards cooperation. We are neighbors and must live in peace.” He emphasized his readiness to meet with the new Hungarian leaders at any time.

The President noted that the new Prime Minister, Peter Madjar, may have internal matters to address concerning government formation and European Union relations. Zelensky added, “We are ready.” Previously, he mentioned wanting to discuss the issue of confiscated funds from Ukraine’s Oschadbank with Madjar.

Madjar has expressed a desire for friendly relations with Ukraine and opposed imposing peace conditions on the country. Additionally, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha remarked that following the recent parliamentary election victory of the Hungarian party Tisa, Ukraine is prepared to open a new chapter in its relationship with Hungary.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed optimism about the new Hungarian government's approach to Ukraine, indicating readiness for dialogue and cooperation. He highlighted the importance of friendly relations and the potential for a fresh start following recent political changes in Hungary.
